I felt like I had to review this.

Several things bothered me about this animation, but I'll start with the positives!

The idea is actually quite interesting I love the twist on the typical stylization of the stick figure world and if you've got something funny planned to follow you defiantly
should endure that and complete the series.

Having said that it sores me to say that I know a rough 20 stick animators that could not only out 'animate' you but also out 'draw' you. There is obviously the cliché' stick animations out there, but that's not blamed upon the stick figures it's blamed on the young flash artists that start out and don't know what animation and story telling is all about. And most come to realise it in the following years, if they stick to it.

My point is that moving/animating a stick figure is possibly the BEST way to improve your animation and timing. All throughout your animation you tweened your characters and even made fun of yourself for it. I've gone and checked your other animations and they're exactly the same. There's nothing wrong with tweening it's in there for a reason but the best part about STICK FIGURES is if animated properly (Frame-By-Frame) It'll look 100 times better than your flash we've all just watched.

You're short cutting your art work the background have no lighting and the colours are very dull.

Don't think I'm being a prick because it's not my intention. Basically in the Animation world you'll come across a lot of Constructive Criticism (some good and some bad).

The thing that annoys me is it looks like you're not pushing yourself you have over 60 animations submitted to Newgrounds in over 3 years but your progress and skill levels aren't advancing.

Take your time on the characters (it's not like you draw them more than once)
Take time on your backgrounds (same deal)

If you do take the things I've mentioned into consideration then you might actually get something better than a 4th best animation submitted for that day.

Good luck!

Khris responds:

i thank you for theking the time to review this movie, i certainly do not think that you are a prick, but i'm going to tell you a few facts about this movie.

-i started this about 1 year ago, and just finished it about a week ago
-the main point i was trying to get out is that sticks can be so much more than just tools for fighting

i'm going to take your review and study it carefully, and hopefully in about 2-3 months you will see a better 'not another stick movie'

Very Clever.

ould of rounded it off at the end of the "omg he bit me" part. I only say that so your animation would then prove timeless for years to come.

But I guess with NewGrounds it's all about the NOW! So Nice work. 8/10

just2pale responds:

Thanks - I guess it went a little long, but I think it worked well. Thanks for the comments.

Fantastic!

This was just unreal buddy, so many favourite characters in this movie (and my own *stoked*) but my absolute favourite part was the script. You were true to all the other authors' characters, and it was fantastic they recorded voices for you too!

Brilliant stuff. Makes me love Christmas & NewGrounds just that little bit more.

And you too Jazza.
I love you. :)

Jazza responds:

thanks man. i love you too.

Everyone's having a bitch as if they're the artist

I don't understand what everyone who is "reviewing" is complaing about.

They obviously have their own judgment on how a collabaration is made, but there technically are no rules.

This is a bunch of animations - animated to a song, in tribute to a great band. What's wrong with that!? People are complaining about storyline, and quality. There doesn't have to be a story line, and the artists in this collab did their best.
I see nothing wrong with that!

I had a very fun time in this collab, as I'm sure everyone else did.

See you next time guys!

ShortMonkey responds:

Damn straight!

Hope to animate with ya sometime again soon!

Good Director

Warning. this is a Critic, not a review.

Let me start by saying I loved this, and did "LMAO"
However, if I may suggest a few points you should work on as an author.

- Animation: Was pretty good, everything moved in a cmooth way, expect for some parts which i'm sure were meant to be as bad as they were. (*glasses*)

Graphics: Worst part of this, all the characters were designed cliche' which was okay, and i didn't mind that, but the things that bothered me was the cartoon style you chose, and also the lack of atomony to the human figure, (I'm mainly talking about the hands) But a bit of practice should fix that.

Voices: Pretty bad, you should of done some research for some good Arny voices, I'm terrible but I can still do better than that. Still got the basic point across though. Same for the nerds, pretty sure they all had the same saliary voices as each other.

Humour: Made this whole movie. It litterally got me 'LOL"-ing. So props to that as I don't really get a good laugh these days.

Conclusion: Was a great movie, and I voted 5/5 as I think it deserves a higher score, if you work on the things i suggested you will become great a great author. I have seen quite a few other of your animations, and I'm glad you're trying a different style from the tween. Don't give up!

Looking forward to you're next animation.

Sh0T-D0wN responds:

:D!

Impressive.

It was dreadfully obvious you can't draw to save your life, having said that it wasn't needed in this sort of animation.

You humor was top notch and (actually quite inspiring) anyhow, it seemed to drag on at the start (like every Pokémon game does) and I did notice a bit of pick up towards the end.

Missingno definitely got my LOLs running, I forgot all about him as I've only really played Pokémon red... Then they started making too many Pokémon for me to bother with.

ANYWAY

Fantastic, rating it 4/5 and giving it 8 Stars out of 10.

I'm not sure if you could create a sequel from this, but if you could then go for it... and please work on your art a little (in the sense of the ending animation and your own pixel work)

Great work!

OrangePylon responds:

Haha, you don't think Peter's face at the end was beautiful? :3

Thanks for the kind words. Art's not my strong point, but I love to write, cast, and direct shit. I enjoy working in flash, too, but damn, I need a tablet. :P

Brilliant

Your animation is always top otch along side your art.

I wonder if Rudd gets to see this, i'll be watching Q & A to see if you are displayed. Brilliant work bro, keep it up.

Please in future, more voice actors! Your own voice is now second nature to me. :P

Good luck.

Sexual-Lobster responds:

i'm hoping the top brass never see this, they'd probably be offended

hey cmon i only did one line!

egorapter

sorry dude, no redeeming qualities that i liked, artwork was rushed (maybe on purpose) voices were, better than the script but the scrippt and theme were totally unoriginal to NewGrounds standards, sorry man.

More practice with your art should make these more enjoyable. Good luck ego.. i mean RhysMus

RhysMus responds:

HAHA well aren't you the smartie :D ( and it was ment to be rushed :P)

Very well put together.

It's not often i site and get stunned by the sheer plot of the story, after how much damage was done to the Flash program so early i started to worry this was a cheap rip off...
But it made it so much cooler when he started attacking every, the little shit going through your recycled bn.. i thought he might uncover a virus or some porn... LOL

But then the AIM battle, very nice.. would of been cool to VS the MSN guy at the same time, but the whole chat convo, very wll done.. and timed well hard to concerntrate on both at once, but i guess that makes u watch it twice.

Also, very smart with the computer trying to defend itself... so many real life ideas brought in to a virtual reality.. like the fire wall was awesome, i love it when animations out smart my ideas which pop in to my head during the presentation. Then the computer over load, and kicking him while he's down... made me LOL

Just brilliant, and you didn't stop! Even themed the chosen one as a pop up blocker :P

hhha Ace bro... absoluter ace!

Thanks, 5'd.

noogai responds:

it's not often i get a review as in depth as yours.. thanks a lot!
I like when people comment on specific parts of the movie instead of the whole thing.
again, thanks a lot.

What's happened?

It's like you're actually getting worse at these... or maybe my expectations are rising for something new.. i watched half way throu and thought maybe someone else made this as a tribute...

Sorry man, let down.. maybe you're milking this style too much.. try to involve something new, i liked the unique random part witht he counting at the start... Maybe it's time to bring in soe verbal drama and MOUTHS! D:

That'd be interesting...

Splurgle responds:

I will try my best to not disappoint you, Master Samus, in the next one. Thanks a huge bundle for the review! :)
